Warner Robins Air Force Base is located just south of Macon in Central Georgia. It has experienced significant growth in past years due to the transfer of personnel and services from military bases being closed as the Department of Defense looks to trim expenses. Tremendous growth can pose problems as existing computer systems and processes try to handle the influx. One area that Warner Robins found challenging was keeping their base contact directory up to date. Previously, the directory was updated on a desktop computer database application and distributed to different departments manually. As the need for refreshing the directory grew, it became a logistical bottleneck to keep the information updated and distributed by this method. We assisted the Air Force by creating an Intranet application deployed on a central platform where personnel could access updates immediately. The application was designed to include several levels of password security to protect sensitive contact information. In addition, the system was expanded to accommodate off base personnel with critical relocation information such as real estate, shopping and where to locate essential city services. As a result, Warner Robins was able to provide instantaneous information at a lower cost than their previous method. Intranets can reduce expenses tremendously by allowing centralized communication and collaboration between members of an organization.
